Squadron 303 (dir. Denis Delić) – King George Scene
A worthy instance of the speech and music interaction.
· A complex scene to score — layered with emotion and narrative tension
· Opens with subtle military percussion, setting a restrained tone
Each time King George inquires about the Squadron’s nationality, an echo of the Polish anthem answers
· A counterpoint emerges — horn on the left quoting Mazurek Dąbrowskiego (airmen’s side), horn on the right echoing God Save the Queen (English side)
· Intertwined anthems form a musical dialogue of solidarity between Poland and the UK during WWII
The result? A witty, proud ceremonial piece — and one of my personal favourites
· A deranged animation about a miserable furball with a trunk and his plan — rollerskate to Kalasanty’s flat, axe in tow
· Professionalism abandoned in favour of raw, improvised chaos
· Music performed live to picture, with detuned upright piano and lush reverb
· Abrupt shifts, broken timing, and real hiccups left deliberately untouched
· A score that mirrors the film’s absurd confusion and manic charm
· Just me, the piano, and a story that absolutely refused to make sense
an unhinged, surreal oddity. i love it.
Shivering Trunks (dir. Natalia Brożyńska)
